Story of Chef Henrys Cafe began on June 30,1973. That day, my young and handsome Henry married me in Lucenec, Slovakia. I loved him and was ready to follow him to the end of the world. I was not thinking about the real meaning of those words at that point. On July 3, 1987 we decided to take destiny into our own hands. We lost hope that communism would ever go away. Our children deserved better opportunities, so we left many precious people behind... and everything else that we worked for, for fifteen years. Our journey was complicated and long. We had plenty of time for dreams. One of the dreams was to own a restaurant that we could call our own. Before we headed to America, we decided that within two years of being there we should fulfill this dream. We did, but kept dreaming about a restaurant where we can have a nice dinner, because that's the time the whole family comes around. Family is very important in our life and we like to share this joy with others like us. Life was not that easy and we had ups and downs learning on the run, new language, new rules, new habits..... There are days in our lives when we hope to meet an angel, it happens sometimes, and it happened to us. We met someone who trusted us and believed in us and Chef Henry's Cafe was born. We sacrificed two mortgage payments and hoped for the best. Seven weeks later Scott Joseph wrote a wonderful review and we were able to catch up with our mortgage payments. We will be forever thankful to him. Many things can make us happy, but if you had a good time in our restaurant we always have sweet dreams. We dream that you will return. |
